He is the one that is, who was and who is to come.
His word also is and is to come. Every word that God speaks must surely come to pass. When he says anything, he won’t stop saying it and so it must continually come to pass. He has told the moon to shine at night and the sun by day… they dare not refuse to do so as long as he has not changed his mind. It is only human that thinks God has changed his mind when he says a thing. All creatures know that when God has spoken once, it must continue to stand. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. It is because he does not change, that is why we are not consumed, and that is also why the earth and every created thing are working well. Through him all things were created and he holds all things by the word of his power.
When God gives any promise, there are always multiple fulfillments as it will continue to unfold in life and every generation. In any generation, and for every man that will take hold of that promise, it will come to fulfillment because God will not change his mind.
Jacob predicted of Judah that: “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his”. It looks like this prophecy was fulfilled when David came, but it was ultimately fulfilled when Jesus came.
The promise of the coming of the messiah was fulfilled in every generation from the time it was announced till the coming of Jesus. There were lots of people that walked in that promised e.g. CYRUS of Isa 45. They were all prototypes of that which was to come, Jesus!
God also gave a promise to David that he will give him a son to sit on his throne, every successive Davidic king was, at once, both a fulfillment in that day as well as a promise of what was to come when Christ, the final One in the Davidic line, arrived; Who was also called the son of David.
Each of these successive fulfillments of the promise gives us confidence that what was in the distant future would certainly happen.
The central truth of the bible is the coming of a Messiah, but in every generation, there will always be a born messiah. We all have promises written concerning us in the bible that we can relate to. John was to find out that he was the one the bible was talking about who will become a voice crying out in the wilderness. Cyrus was to later find out God has spoken about him and even mentioned his name. Josiah was to fulfill every prophecy written concerning him.
There are lots of blessing hanging in every family and every generation and more importantly in the family of God… for the scriptures talked about the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow. The glories belong to us that are now in Christ.
Instead of bothering about generational curses which Christ has already delivered us from, why not discover generational blessings that are waiting for anyone who will connect to them… loads and loads of them. Let’s discover, plunge into them and begin to fulfill prophecies.
The earnest expectations of the creation are indeed waiting for the manifestations of the sons of God.
happy new month.
