Power under control… That’s humility!

You can say you are humble all you like, but we will know if this is true when a little power is committed to you… Many have become oppressors.

The oppressed attains a little relief and becomes the oppressor… It’s a cycle and we learned it right from our primary and secondary schools… You become a senior and you have to make the junior go through what you went through, in fact, that was your only consolation while you were being oppressed; that one day you will become the oppressor….

Have you not realized how you carry your shoulders looking for trouble just because of your affiliation with a person of authority? You are not even the one who possesses the power, it’s just your friend’s brother’s cousin’s son that is in the army.  Nobody can talk to you again, you are always right every traffic fights, always the first to slap somebody. No police officer can act anyhow…I can almost hear you waiting for anybody to delay you….’let show time begin’.

Yet you are so humble that you are even proud of your humility.

You can do a lot of analysis about what is happening in the Senate, how our leaders are not doing the right thing, you only forget to see how you are misbehaving just because you are a level 1 supervisor, trust me, bro, you will do worse if you get more power.

No one should address you by your name just because you have a Ph.D…. You will not even stand if people don’t add ‘Reverend’ to the pastor they call you.

Money indeed brings power, and there are sincerely some sins you have not committed just because you don’t have the capacity to commit them ‘yet’. You don’t know anything about fraud because you are not yet in the position to add few zeros to figures…
Wait until documents stop at your desk…wait until you are in the capacity to decide how money is disbursed, and let’s see if most of the money won’t go into your private accounts. Just wait for a little more power. Won’t you also reserve a job position for your unborn child?

You wonder why Haman got so angry because Mordecai did not bow to him, though thousands bowed; just only one Mordecai is enough to make him lose his sleep and appetite, u know why? It’s because it costs so much to attain that height, he didn’t get there overnight; now he has to show it and everybody must see…. Typical of any human.

Would you like to be addressed as a Mr. /Mrs. if you have spent the whole of your years studying till professorship?

Until you can say like Paul, ‘all these I counted but loss for the Excellency of gaining Christ; you have not reached there yet.

True humility comes only by the Holy Spirit. HE is humility personified and no one can be humble except through HIM.

You have heard the saying that if a soldier slaps you, you will know that police is your friend (lol)… Imagine you slapped a man and later discovered he is not only a Nigerian soldier but also with a very high rank (in a land where a soldier gets away with anything)….you might as well die before he kills you, yet he walked away without taking offense…. Now that’s power under control…. He could do something, but he chose not to…. If it were Peter and John, they would call fire down from heaven and consume anyone who doesn’t agree with them, yet Jesus told them, you know not what manner of spirit you have. HE is the spirit of humility, HE has so much power yet HE does not oppress anyone nor force HIMSELF on any man.

Empty vessels make the loudest noise. You really don’t need to prove yourself to anyone. Those who indeed have power don’t need to show off.

This was so important that Christ had to emphasize it in many scriptures:

Matthew 20: 25-28

But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that in this world kings are tyrants and officials lords it over the people beneath them. But among you, it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must become your slave. For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many.”

Mk10:43-45

So Jesus called them all together to him and said, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the heathen have power over them, and the leaders have complete authority. This, however, is not the way it is among you. If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest; and if one of you wants to be first, you must be the slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people.”…

Lk 22:25-26

Jesus said to them, “The kings of the pagans have power over their people, and the rulers claim the title ‘Friends of the People.’ But this is not the way it is with you; rather, the greatest one among you must be like the youngest, and the leader must be the servant.

God resist the proud but gives grace to the humble (Prov 3:34; James 4:6; IPet 5:5)… He brings the proud down but lifts the humble up in due season.

Now I particular love this place in the scripture:

Are you not aware that I can call on My Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? Matt 26: 53….

More than twelve legions of angels….. Oh boy! That’s power!……. he didn’t do it. That’s humility! power under control.

So therefore,

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

God exalted him in due season

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2:5-10

Amen
