The times and seasons belong to the Lord

Acts 1:6-7
When the apostles met together with Jesus, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time give the Kingdom back to Israel?”
Jesus said to them, “The times and occasions are set by my Father’s own authority, and it is not for you to know when they will be.

How often we ask the question ‘when’… When oh Lord will you bring your promises to pass? When will I meet the one? When will this business become big? When will that promised child come? When will my prosperity come? So many promises that look farfetched from the present reality.

Has God promised you anything like me? Has he promised to bring you to a spacious land? Has he promised to put you on top but you are struggling at the bottom? Has he promised to give you a hope and a future and you wonder when the future will come or there is no correlation between what he promised and the reality you currently live in.

We all want to know when these things will be but the times and occasions belong to the Lord. He has set it in his own authority alone, and it is not for us to bother with the timing. Trusting God also means trusting in his timing, have faith that he knows when the time is right. Know of a certainty that whatever God promised, he will also do it for Faithful is he that has promised who also will do it. He makes all things beautiful in His time.

The Apostles wanted to know if they will be reigning with God now that he has risen from the dead. After all that they’ve been through, it must be time to show the world that they weren’t joking being with the Lord even though they’ve gone into hiding immediately he got arrested… they wanted to know if the Kingdom will be restored to Israel now!

The reply Jesus gave also answers our innermost question.

Jesus said to them, “The times and occasions are set by my Father’s own authority, and it is not for you to know when they will be.

There is indeed a time for the fulfillment of the promise.

Here is the answer the LORD gave me:

“Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you,
So that it can be read at a glance.
Put it in writing, because it is not yet time for it to come true.
But the time is coming quickly, and what I show you will come true.
It may seem slow in coming, but wait for it;
It will certainly take place, and it will not be delayed.

So what are we to do while we wait for the fulfillment of his promise;

Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Ps 37: 3

*Be Faithful with whatever your hand finds doing now. This is the measure God uses to determine if and when to take you to the next level.

*Don’t scheme your way to the place God has shown you because time makes it right or wrong. It is not good to be at the right place at the wrong time. Wait on God and he will take you there himself.

The occasion also belongs to the Lord according to Acts 1: 8. God has a plan and when the time is right, he will set the stage himself. Don’t try to help God, he really doesn’t need your help. When you try to help him, it results in another Ishmael which will become a thorn in your flesh later Gal 4:29.

God knows what to do to bring his own word to pass, for none of his words is void of power.

Beloved, rest in this assurance and be at peace, God never fails.
